The Hyouga clan is featured in the first Inuyasha movie. Menoumaru is Hyouga's only son. Two hundred years ago, a giant army of youkai from 'the continent' (China), led by Hyouga, came to Japan to take the souls of those killed in battle. At that time, Inutaishou was ruling the west. He and Hyouga fought; Inutaishou won and sealed Hyouga away with a tooth, as well as Menoumaru, then chased the rest of the demons out of Japan. Hyouga's body had perished but his great power remained, sealed with the Tree of Ages in the Forest of No Return. Tenseiga couldn't break the seal placed on him, but Tessaiga could. Menoumaru's seal is broken when one of the shards of the Shikon no Tama hits him. He sets his two minions, Ruri and Hari, after Inuyasha and tricks him into opening the seal when he learns he's the only one who can use the sword. He than begins a ritual is which he absorbs the power of the previous generations, becoming the new Hyouga. Working together, Inuyasha and Kagome defeat him by combined the power of Bakuryuuha and one of her sacred arrows. This actually ties in with historical events. In 1281, Khubilai, who ruled from Peking over the main eastern domains of the Mongols, sent a force of some 140,000 Mongols, Chinese, and Koreans overseas toward western Japan. The invaders were contained on a narrow beachhead for almost two months. Then a typhoon struck, destroying much - perhaps more than half - of the Mongol fleet and forcing the remainder to withdraw in defeat. When Myouga is telling Inuyasha of how his father drove off the invading youkai, he describes a massive storm.
